Creating Customers - Portal
Before you can open accounts or initiate transactions in the Lorum portal, you must first create a customer.
Create a Customer
Enter Customer Information
- Navigate to the Customers section in the left sidebar.
- Click "New customer" in the top right corner.
- Select the customer type - Individual or Business.
- Ensure the customer name matches their legal document exactly:
- Individuals: First name and last name must match their identification document
- Businesses: Business name must match their legal registration
- Enter in all the required fields in the form.
Upload customer documents
Some customers require additional compliance information and supporting documents before they can be approved.
If additional information is required, the portal will display an additional component on the customer profile with instructions on what needs to be provided. This includes expected transactional activity and required KYC documents.
Any required documents should be uploaded directly to the customer profile in the portal. Document submission is required when your organisation is not operating under a reliance model.
Moving to the Smart Reliance Model
Why this exists
As part of our regulatory obligations and our commitment to effective customer monitoring across the customer lifecycle, newly created customers go through a verification step before they're usable.
When you begin onboarding customers, every customer starts in a pending state.
To configure our risk models to your customer base, we manually review your first five onboarded customers. Approval takes noticeably longer during this period than under the automated flow, so plan for extra turnaround time early on.
Once this calibration period ends, you'll move onto our smart reliance model - an automated, risk-based approval flow where a customer risk engine replaces manual review.
Possible outcomes
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Approved | Passed verification and can proceed with currency onboarding, account creation, and other supported operations. In most cases this happens almost immediately after creation. |
| Rejected | Did not pass onboarding assessment and cannot be onboarded onto the Lorum platform. |
